Week 1: From February 16th, 2016 to February 19th, 2016 – Nhật Ký Thực Tập Bằng Tiếng Anh tại Khách Sạn

     I had an opportunity to meet vice managing director, human resources manager and hotel management. Also, I had greeting workers, visiting around the reception area and socializing with everybody in Thang Loi Hotel and I read the documents about established history of this hotel. Then I watch the working of the receptionist, such as what they do when customer check-in and check-out, how do they answer phone calls.                                 The most interesting things I found out that the uniform of the receptionist. It made me feel that they were very professional. Besides, I just see a little foreign customer book hotel room. Maybe Tet holiday finished and did not have many foreign tourists. Hence, I did not have many chances to talk with them.       

Tuesday (February 16th, 2016)

     From 7:30 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area and met vice managing director, human resources manager and hotel management.  I had been given directions about my job. That is on the first week, I worked at reception area. From the second week to the last week, I went to all the hotel room to clean and then I went to reception area to work. After that I was allowed to visit around reception area and socializing with everyone in the hotel. I found that they are so friendly and polite. Beside that, I looked at the receptionist in hotel and tried to write down the works that they did in reception area. Specifically, receptionist received a call from customer. She took note quickly some information about the customer, the price of hotel room and and the time they will come there.

Wednesday (February 17th, 2016) (Nhật Ký Thực Tập Bằng Tiếng Anh tại Khách Sạn)

     From 7:30 a.m to 11 a.m: I read the documents about established history of Thang Loi hotel. After that, I take a photo at reception area for my internship report. Besides, a customer complained about their hotel room and they wanted to change another one.  So, I looked at the receptionist’s attitude and handling.

     Also, there were 3 customers came to receptionist and want check-out. So, I took note the steps for check-out.

Thursday (February 18th, 2016)

     From 7:30 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area and took note the worked that receptionist was doing. There were some customers came there and wanted to check-in. Therefore, I tried to write down the step of receptionist do when they communicated with the customers. After these customers received the key, receptionist lead them into the hotel room.

Friday (February 19th, 2016)

     From 7:30 a.m to 11 a.m: I had been introduced about Thang Loi Hotel regulations for receptionist and tried to learn by heart. Besides, a customer wanted to book lunch at the Thang Loi Restaurant Hotel. So, I tried to take note the steps that receptionist were handling.

Week 2: From February 22nd, 2016 to February 26th, 2016 – Nhật Ký Thực Tập Bằng tại Khách Sạn Bằng Tiếng Anh

     In this week, I had some new work. I went around hotel room for customer to take a photo and clean hotel room. After I had finished my work, I went to reception area to work with receptionist.

Monday (February 22nd, 2016)

     From 7:30 a.m to 10 a.m: I went around hotel room for customer to take a photo and clean hotel room. The works were making beds, tidying a room, cleaning trash, cleaning bath room and changing tower. I also tried to learn by heart the steps to make beds.

     From 10 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area. There was a customer complain about electric water heater. It was inactivity so receptionist called corrective maintenance to fix it. I also took note the phone number of corrective maintenance. I saved this phone number because I think when I would be there to work as a receptionist, I would contact with this phone number if I got the same situation.

Tuesday (February 23rd, 2016) (Nhật Ký Thực Tập Bằng Tiếng Anh tại Khách Sạn)

     From 7:30 a.m to 9:30 a.m: I went to hotel room to clean. Because this was the second time I do it so I did it very quickly. I was praised because of the good job. Besides, while I was cleaning the rooms, I was talking with a foreign customer. The conversation between him and me:

     B: Yes, come in. Miss, when I come back here, I can’t see anything. Also, it’s so hot    and I feel suffocated. So don’t turn off the air-conditioner and the lamp. Do you understand what I say?

     A: Yes, I do. Because this system power will be turn off when guests go out. But if you   want to turn on system power even you go out, we will turn it on.

     B: Okay, thank you. By the way, I would like a toothbrush and a razor.

     A: One moment, please. I’ll check that for you. Yes, toothbrush is okay. But I’m sorry we don’t supply razor.

     B: Okay, thank you, Miss.

     A: Is that all?

     B: Yes, that is. Thank you very much.

     A: Glad to be of service.

     From 9:30 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area. It had nothing to do so I tried to learn about the steps for check-in and check-out.

Wednesday (February 24th, 2016) (Nhật Ký Thực Tập Bằng Tiếng Anh tại Khách Sạn)

     From 7:30 a.m to 10 a.m: I went to hotel room to clean. For instance, I dusted the furniture, took out the rubbish and made the bed.

     From 10 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area. It had nothing to do.

Thursday (February 25th, 2016)

     From 7:30 a.m to 9:30 a.m: I went to hotel room to clean.

     From 9:30 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area. I had nothing to do so I tried to learn about the steps for check-in and check-out as yesterday.

Friday (February 26th, 2016)

     From 7:30 a.m to 9:30 a.m: I went to hotel room to clean.

From 9:30 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area. Some Vietnamese customers wanted to see hotel room before they check-in, so receptionist and I came with them to introduce hotel room.

 Week 3: From February 29th, 2016 to March 4th, 2016 – Nhật Ký Thực Tập Ngôn Ngữ Anh tại Khách Sạn

     In this week, I had the same work like last week. In addition, I felt very lucky because there were many foreign customers came there. This was a great chance to improve my English listening and speaking skill. I worked as a receptionist and had many interesting jobs that were letting customers went to the room that they booked before, communication with foreign customers, write about the notebook which was used to save the personal information of customers such as name, date of birth, passport number.

Monday (February 29th, 2016)

     From 7:30 a.m to 9:30 a.m: I went to hotel room to clean.

     From 9:30 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area to write the notebook which was used to save the personal information of customers such as name, date of birth, passport number. Also, I met a foreign customer. After he had received the key of the hotel room, he wanted us led him go to the room. Hence, I led him go to that room. On the road, I had a conversation with him. The conversation between him and me:

     A was me and B was foreign customer.

     A: Goor morning, Sir.

     B: Good morning.

     A: I’m an internship. Let me come with you to go to room 507.

     B: Okay, thank you.

     A: It’s my pleasure. Let me introduce myself, my name Kim Tin, you also call LiLy. It’s my nick name. May I have your name, please?

      B: Lily, it is the lovely name. I’m Marchand. Well, Lily, what are you study?

     A: I study English Business. This is the fourth year. It is also the final year that I study in university.

     B: Oh ho, well done.

     A: Excuse me. How long do you intend to stay?

     B: Four days. On Thursday I will return home.

     A: May I know where are you room?

     B: Yes, I’m from Canada. It took me twenty four hours to come here.

     A: Oh oh. I think this is the time to take a rest for you. This is your room.

     B: Yes, thanks a lot.

    A: Glad to be of service.

Tuesday (March 1st, 2016) (Nhật Ký Thực Tập Bằng Tiếng Anh tại Khách Sạn)

     From 7:30 a.m to 9:30 a.m: I went to hotel room to clean.

     From 9:30 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area to write the notebook which was used to save the personal information of customers such as name, date of birth, passport number, room number, etc.

Wednesday (March 2nd, 2016)

     From 7:30 a.m to 9:30 a.m: I went to hotel room to clean.

     From 9:30 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area to write the notebook which was used to save the personal information of customers such as name, date of birth, passport number. A customer from China complained of his room. After receptionist had told me that we need to change another room for the customer, I used Chinese language to talk with him and helped him to change another room. Besides, a foreign customer asked me to give him the way to go to restaurant of this hotel. This is the conversation with him:

     A was me and B was foreign customer.

     B: Morning.

     A: Good morning, Sir. How can I help you?

     B: Could you tell me where restaurant is? I have breakfast tickets but I do not know where should I go to have some food?

     A: Certainly. Sir. The restaurant of this hotel is in floor G.

     B: Floor J?

     A: No, G. G as in Good. G, floor G.

     B: Ah ha, floor G.

     A: Yes.

     B: Good, thanks for your help.

     A: You’re welcome.

Thursday (March 3rd, 2016)

     From 7:30 a.m to 8:30 a.m: I went to hotel room to clean.

     From 8:30 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area to write the notebook which was used to save the personal information of customers such as name, date of birth, passport number. I met Mr. Marchand. He seemed to be condider check-out. While he was waiting to receive the receipt, I had a small talk with him.

     This is the conversation with him:

     A was me and B was foreign customer.

     A: Good morning, sir. Take a sit, please.

     B: Good morning, Lily. Chao buoi sang.

     A: Chao buoi sang. Take a sit, please.

    A: It is nice to see you again.

    B: Yeah, nice to see you.

    A: How are you today?

    B: Good. Thank you. And you?

    A: Pretty fair. Thanks. Have you ever been here before?

    B: Yes, I have. This is the second time I have been here.

    A: Where is your favourite place to hang out in Binh Duong?

    B: Oh, Tay Tang pagoda. I go on foot. That place is nice with beautiful music. So, it makes me feel very comfortable and peaceful whenever being here. Have you ever been there before?

     A: Yes, I have. Sometimes I go with my mom or my friends to go to chant. Sometimes I go to pray.

     B: Great. Do you believe in reincarnation?

     A: In reincarnation? Sorry, I do not understand this word.

     B: Do you believe in life after death?

    A: Yes, I do. I am Buddhist.

    B: Good.

    A: Sir, do you use Facebook?

    B: Yes, just sometimes.

    A: Oh, I like your shirt. Could I ask you where did you get it?

    B: Haha, I get it in Thailand. Thailand radiates a golden hue from its glittering temples. It is so amazing.

    A: How about Vietnam? What do you think when you travel in Vietnam?

    B: I am very happy after the meaningful trip, service is good and the people here are very friendly.

    A: Will you still remember me when you leave here?

    B: Yeah, I will. And you?

    A: Of couse, I will. Oh oh, it is the time to say good bye.

    B: Yeb. Chào tạm biệt.

    A: Chào tạm biệt.

Friday (March 4th, 2016)

     From 7:30 a.m to 10 a.m: I went to hotel room to clean.

     From 10 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area to write the notebook which was used to save the personal information of customers such as name, date of birth, passport number, room number, etc.

Week 4: From March 7th, 2016 to March 11th, 2016-  Nhật Ký Thực Tập Bằng Tiếng Anh tại Khách Sạn

     In this week, there also had many foreign customers came and booked hotel room. For this reason, I had many chances to use English to talk with them.  Additionally, I felt confident because I learnt by heart the steps for check-in, check-out and handling customer complaints. Nonetheless, excellent complaint handling is not easy and sometimes stressful. Even so, I have tried to complete the assigned work with a sweet smile.

Monday (March 7th, 2016)

     From 7:30 a.m to 9:30 a.m: I went to hotel room to clean.

     From 9:30 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area to write the notebook which was used to save the personal information of customers such as name, date of birth, passport number. A foreign customer asked me to call a taxi for him. The conversation between him and me:

      A was me and B was customer.

      A: Good morning, Sir. May I help you?

     B: Morning. Would you call me a taxi?

     A: Yes, Sir. Just a moment, please.

     B: Okay, thanks.

     A: Is that all?

     B: Yes.

     A: Have a nice day.

     B: Yub, have a nice day.

Tuesday (March 8th, 2016)

     From 7:30 a.m to 9:30 a.m: I went to hotel room to clean.

     From 9:30 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area to write the notebook which was used to save the personal information of customers such as name, date of birth, passport number. I met a foreign customer and he asked the way to go Hung Vuong Street. The conversation between him and me:

     A was me and B was foreign customer.

     A: Good morning, Sir. May I help you?

     B: Good morning. I would like to go to Hung Vuong Street to book flight. Could you tell me how to get to Hung Vuong Street?

     A: Certainly. Sir. Firstly, you go straight ahead. Continue straight on past some traffic lights. Finally, the place you want to find on your letf.

     B: Good, thank you. Have a nice day.

     A: You too, Sir.

Wednesday (March 9th, 2016)

     From 7:30 a.m to 9:30 a.m: I went to hotel room to clean.

     From 9:30 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area to write the notebook which was used to save the personal information of customers such as name, date of birth, passport number. A couple foreign customers complained about their room. The conversation between them and me: (Nhật Ký Thực Tập Bằng Tiếng Anh tại Khách Sạn)

     A was me, B was foreign male customer and C was female customer.

     A: Good morning. May I help you?

     B: Morning. The people next door room is so noisy. It makes we fell uncomfortably.

     A: Oh, we are terrible sorry. Would you like to change another?

     B: Definitely, yes.

     A: Are you living in the room 601?

     B: Yes.

     A: Okay, now you will change to room 608, won’t you?

     B: Yes, I will.

     A: Is that all?

     C: Could we have breakfast tickets, please.

     A: Yes, lady. This is two breakfast tickets.

     C: Okay. Thank you so much.

     A: You’re welcome.

Thursday (March 10th, 2016)

     From 7:30 a.m to 9:30 a.m: I went to hotel room to clean.

     From 9:30 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area to write the notebook which was used to save the personal information of customers such as name, date of birth, passport number. In here, I received a phone call from customer in the room 407. The conversation between him and me:

     A was me and B was customer.

     A: Xin chào. Khách sạn Thắng Lợi xin nghe.

     B: Xin chào. Do you speak English?

     A: Yes, I do. May I help you, sir?

     B: Could you buy tobacco and phở for me?

     A: Sorry, I do not understand. Could you please repeat that?

     B: Okay, tobacco, I am a smoker.

     A: I got it. Tobacco. How about phở? It is a food, right?

     B: Yeah, alright. Please bring it to my room.

     A: Okay. Is that all?

     B: Yes, that is. Thanks a lot.

     A: My pleasure. Have a nice day.

Friday (March 11th, 2016)

     From 7:30 a.m to 9:30 a.m: I went to hotel room to clean.

     From 9:30 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area to write the notebook which was used to save the personal information of customers such as name, date of birth, passport number.

Week 5: From March 7th, 2016 to March 11th, 2016 – Nhật Ký Thực Tập Bằng Tiếng Anh tại Khách Sạn

     This week, not only I used English to talk with foreign customers, but also I learnt a few Japanese languages. Additionally, I did the usual works like last week.

Monday (March 14th, 2016)

     From 7:30 a.m to 9.30 a.m: I went to hotel room to clean.

     From 9.30 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area to write the notebook which was used to save the personal information of customers such as name, date of birth, passport number. A Vietnamese customer wanted to book a hotel room. Previously, she wanted to see hotel room before she booked that room. And so, I took her to see hotel room.

Tuesday (March 15th, 2016)

     From 7:30 a.m to 10 a.m: I went to hotel room to clean.

     From 10 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area. A foreign customer asked me to call a taxi for him. The conversation between him and me:

     A was me and B was foreign customer.

     A: Good morning, Sir. What can I do for you?

     B: Good morning. I would like a 7-seat taxi, please.

     A: A 7-seat taxi, right?

     B: That right. May I take this magazing out?

     A: Definitely, yes.

    B: Thanks.

     A: You’re welcome. 

Wednesdy (March 16th, 2016) (Nhật Ký Thực Tập Bằng Tiếng Anh tại Khách Sạn)

     From 7:30 a.m to 9 a.m: I went to hotel room to clean.

     From 9 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area to write the notebook which was used to save the personal information of customers such as name, date of birth, passport number. While foreign customer was waiting to receive invoice, he was using the shoe cleaning machine in reception area. After he had finished using, he did not know how to make that machine could turn off. And so, he asked me to help him turn off that machine. The conversation between him and me:

     A was me and B was the foreign customer.

     B: Excuse me. I can not turn off it. How can I stop it?

     A: It will be turn off automatically after a certain period. So, do not worry about it.

     B: Okay. Thank you.

     A: You’re welcome.

     Also, a Vietnamese customer asked receptionist to bring her suitcase into her room. So, I contacted with porter to help her.

Thursday (March 17th, 2016)

     From 7:30 a.m to 9.30 a.m: I went to hotel room to clean.

     From 9.30 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area. A receptionist asked me to receive the invoice at accountant department. So I went to accountant department to receive that invoice. Subsequently, a Vietnamese customer would like to have a lighter. Therefore I went to the chamber, where housekeeping stored hotel appliances, to take lighters.

Friday (March 18th, 2016)

     From 7:30 a.m to 9:30 a.m: I went to hotel room to clean.

     From 9.30 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area. A Japanese customer used Japanese to talk with receptionist. Thus, I learnt a few Japanese words and phrases for greeting.

     Also, a Vietnamese customer called Thang Loi Hotel. She wanted to book a room in Thang Loi Hotel. Thus, I asked her about the time, kind of room and the number of people. Then I took this message into Hotel notebook.

 

Week 6: From March 21st, 2016 to March 25th, 2016 – Nhật Ký Thực Tập Tiếng Anh tại Khách Sạn

 

     In this week, I did the usual works like last week.  Beside that, there had a few foreign customers came and booked hotel room. For this reason, I had a few chances to use English to talk with them.

Monday (March 21st, 2016)

     From 7:30 a.m to 9:30 a.m: I went to hotel room to clean.

     From 9.30 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area. In here, I received a phone call of a Vietnamese customer. She wanted to book a hotel room in Thang Loi Hotel and I asked her about the time, kind of room and the number of people. I also took this message into Hotel notebook.

     In addition, I cleaned the reception area.

Tuesday (March 22nd, 2016)

     From 7:30 a.m to 9:30 a.m: I went to hotel room to clean.

     From 9.30 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area to write the notebook which was used to save the personal information of customers such as name, date of birth, passport number

Wednesday (March 23rd, 2016)

     From 7:30 a.m to 9:30 a.m: I went to hotel room to clean.

     From 9.30 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area to write the notebook which was used to save the personal information of customers such as name, date of birth, passport number. A receptionist asked me to receive the invoice at accountant department. So I went to accountant department to receive that invoice.

Thursday (March 24th, 2016)

     From 7:30 a.m to 9:30 a.m: I went to hotel room to clean.

     From 9.30 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area. A Vietnamses customer wanted to has breakfast ticket so I gave her.

Friday (March 25th, 2016) (Nhật Ký Thực Tập Bằng Tiếng Anh tại Khách Sạn)

     From 7:30 a.m to 9:30 a.m: I went to hotel room to clean.

     From 9.30 a.m to 11 a.m: I went to the reception area. I received a phone call from foreign customer. The conversation between him and me:

     A was me and B was foreign customer.

     A: Xin chào. Khách sạn Thắng Lợi xin nghe.

     B: Hello. Do you speak English?

     A: Yes, I do. May I have your name, sir?

     B: I’m Kyle.

     A: Good morning. Kyle. Can I help you?

     B: I would like to make a reservation. What type of room do you have?

     A: We have two kinds of room. VIP room is 390.000 VND and Deluxe room is 690.000 VND. So, what type of room do you want?

     B: Excuse me, does the price include breakfast?

     A: Yes, it does.

     B: Good. Ah, you said that the price of VIP room is 390.000 VND, right?

     A: Yes, that right.

     B: Good, I would like to reserve a VIP room from on next Monday morning.

     A: VIP room. Alright. Excuse me, for how many people? Because the fee for additional people is 120.000 VND per person per night.

     B: oh, only me.

     A: Yes. A VIP room from on next Monday morning. Is that all?

     B: Yes, that is, thank you very much.

     A: You’re welcome.

     After finished the conversation, I took this massage into Hotel notebook.
